Erie County gets new bulletproof dog vests

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three furry law enforcers are a little more protected from harm’s way now that they’re on duty in bullet and stab protective vests.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says Bili, Lord and Cer were outfitted thanks to a few nonprofit organizations which spent $3,000 on three vests. They say Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. rustled up donations from the Cannata Family Foundation and Hot Yoga Spot of Latham, N.Y. to fund the vests.

The dogs and their deputies will be trained next week on the new vests and begin patrolling soon after. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says each new vest costs $950 and is good for five years. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
