Maple Weekend Kicks Off Saturday

ATTICA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Lyle Merle, the owner of Merle Maple Farm and his staff have been busy making maple syrup, and preparing for New York’s Maple Weekend. There will be plenty to do, and especially plenty to eat.

According to Merle, there will be a wide variety of foods including maple chili, maple pulled-pork sandwiches, hot-dogs cooked in maple syrup, maple ice-cream, and maple cappuccino.

While there, you can learn all that goes in to making maple syrup, from harvesting the sap from the trees, to the boiling and filtering to make the syrup itself. But there will be plenty else to do, especially for the kids and kids at heart.

Merle says: “We have an air cannon that a fellow comes in and lets you shoot tennis balls at a target to see how good of an aim you are, and we have wagon rides to the woods.”

But the best part of it all, might just be the samples. Everything from syrup and candy, to hot and barbeque sauce, all made right at the farm. And if you’re lucky, you might just be handed a sample from the most experienced worker at the farm, Lyle’s mother, Florence, who at 100 years old still works at the farm.

Merle Maple Farm is just one of the many locations participating in this weekend and next weekend’s Maple Weekends. To get a full list you can visit this link. The event runs this and next weekend from 10AM to 4PM.
