Police investigating shooting at New Orleans airport

NEW ORLEANS (AP-Mod) — Police say they are investigating a shooting at a security checkpoint in a terminal of the New Orleans international airport.

Col. John Fortunato said Friday authorities shot a man after he attacked one TSA agent with a machete and another with wasp spray. They say he chased another TSA agent before a security guard shot him.

Authorities say the TSA agents are being treated but will be okay, but the suspect, who has been identified as Richard White is unresponsive at a local hospital.

Hitting the perpetrator once in the left chest, left facial area and the left thigh,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said. “There was an innocent by-standard who received a graze wound to the left arm.”

Airport spokeswoman Michelle Wilcut says the shooting happened at a security checkpoint at Concourse B. She says the site has been secured.

Wilcut also said authorities have shut down Concourse B, but the rest of the airport remains open.
