Construction begins on Darien Lake thrill ride

DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Construction is now underway on the newest thrill ride at Darien Lake. It’s called “Rolling Thunder.”

The high-speed ride rockets people back and forth as it gains momentum to go over several loops. It then hangs riders upside-down, reverses direction and starts all over again.

“Rolling Thunder” is expected to be completed before opening day on May 9th.

A new water slide is also coming to the park this season. The “Brain Drain” is a 70-foot high water slide that includes two identical free-fall drops that blast riders into a pool. The ride launches riders into a tunnel to be propelled at 38-feet per second, while spiraling through curves and loops.
