Schumer “honored and humbled” by Reid’s support

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) – A powerful post on Capitol Hill could soon be going to a New Yorker. Senator Charles Schumer now has the support of current minority leader, Harry Reid. He said Schumer would be his choice for the next minority leader.

Schumer was in Buffalo Monday, letting people know he’s honored and humbled by the vote of confidence.

Schumer said, “It’s a big job.  But the one thing I want to assure people here, you know western New York is in my bones, and you won’t see me any less or have me doing any less than I’m doing now.  That will not diminish, because I care about western New York so much.”

Reid announced he will not run for reelection next year. He said he wants to focus on Democrats winning back control of the Senate. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
