AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – The protests against Governor Andrew Cuomo’s education agenda won’t let up, as we get closer to an important deadline. More than 100 people gathered for a rally at Sweet Home Middle School on Monday.
They say Cuomo is holding funding hostage, that needs to go into public education. These protestors believe more charter schools are not the answer.
Cuomo’s education agenda is not sitting well with people here in western New York.
Vice President of Sweet Home Education Association Paul Szymendera said, “We fear that his tactics against tenure are not good for kids in schools. The impact will be direct to the classroom, where teachers can’t advocate the way they can because of tenure.”
Tuesday night, Clarence will join the movement with a rally in front of the high school at 6 p.m.
More than $1 billion in new funding is contingent on the state legislature approving the governor’s plan. The deadline is Wednesday.
