BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The YMCA on Portage Road, in Niagara Falls, will close on May 31st, 2015.

The YMCA Buffalo Niagara plans to continue programming in the Niagara Falls community at offsite locations. Programs and services have been successful since 2014 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Abate Elementary School, according to the Y.

The YMCA said it has invested more than $3 million into the branch, and despite their best efforts it continues to operate at a substantial annual loss.

The building was sold to the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission, who has a “good and viable plan for the reuse of the building for the greater good of the community,” according to YMCA Buffalo Niagara CEO Olin B. Campbell.
