BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Despite the team’s last-place status, the players inside the Sabres locker room are still hungry for a win late in the season.
With “tanking” becoming an everyday term for a lot of Western New Yorkers, and many fans openly rooting for the team to lose in order to gain a better draft pick, the last few weeks have been odd, to say the least.
Players hear the noise, but they are trying to tune it out going into tonight’s game against Toronto.
“I don’t know, maybe their fans are rooting for their team to lose as well. There’s fans that are rooting against us, but we all know there’s a lot of fans out there that are still cheering for us and happy that we’re playing well and we’re winning,” said forward Marcus Foligno.
The Sabres are still battling, despite this lost season, putting last place in question with six games to go.
“Everyone in this room has something to prove, and I think you have something to prove any time you’re putting that sweater over your back, you have something to prove to someone. If you ever think you’re playing for nothing, you’re kidding yourself,” said Matt Moulson.
Going into Wednesday night’s game against Toronto, the Sabres held a four point “lead” over Arizona for last place, although the Coyotes have played one more game.
