School unveils cost-saving solar energy system

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – South Buffalo Charter School students are getting a unique science lesson. The school unveiled a new 200-kilowatt solar energy system from Montante Solar.

The system is expected to produce enough electricity to offset approximately 37 percent of the school’s electricity requirement, that’s about 130 days of free energy.

Montante Solar President Daniel Montante said, “That’s important because it helps lower the school’s electricity bills and puts money back into the programs for all of you.”

The school has already saved over $700 since the system started in February. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
