AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Amherst working the case of a hit-and-run accident say they found an image of a person they needed help identifying, and within hours, they located him.

They say the pictured man could be the driver behind a March 31 hit-and-run accident which happened on Maple and North Forest Streets. Police say they started looking for the man and within just a few hours of being up on, a reader called in and positively identified the man.

Amherst Police thanked the public for their help and say while they’re not yet releasing the man’s identity, they did issue him a traffic summons. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
