$300k of tobacco seized at US border

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — What was said to be a shipment of toys in boxes turned out to be a front for smuggling loose leaf tobacco Wednesday.

Customs and Border Protection Officers seized about $300,000 in what they called undeclared tobacco. Officers say they started the investigation in December, and when they inspected a truck Wednesday at the Lewiston Bridge, they found something other toys.

Officers found boxes full of tobacco hidden behind toys. They say they worked with Homeland Security to solidify the investigation.
