Some residents confident waters won’t breach banks

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — At a creek which is prone to flooding, lines of sandbags block off the banks of Buffalo Creek.

Although the creek’s waters are running high due to melted snow and rainfall, some residents are confident they’re going to be just fine.

“I don’t expect any problems,” Brian Holleran, Lexington Green resident, said. “This creek can handle a lot. It seemed to be a freak of nature when it happened last year with the ice jams.”

He says the waters aren’t even touching sandbags, which is a good sign. Waters of the creek are clear of any ice chunks, which also bodes well for nearby homes.

In the event of an actual flood due to upcoming rainfall, officials say they will alert the entire town via a cell phone alert. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
