BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Despite much support from UB leaders for Governor Andrew Cuomo’s ban on state-funded travel to Indiana, one UB employee is heading there this weekend.
UB Head Coach of the men’s basketball squad Bobby Hurley is set to travel to the state of Indiana this coming weekend to “fulfill contractual obligations.” But the university says no state funds will go to the trip.
That’s how UB says it’s getting around Cuomo’s Executive Order banning all state travel to the state which enacted a law which could potentially open up discrimination against the LGBT community.
“It is our understanding that Bobby Hurley is traveling to Indianapolis this weekend to fulfill some prior contractual obligations,” UB officials said in a release. “It is personal travel that is not state-funded or state-sponsored. He is not representing the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, or the State of New York.”
UB recently cancelled its upcoming tennis and softball games in the State of Indiana.
