Gowanda Police ask for help in identifying van involved in potential child abduction

GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Gowanda say they captured video of a van which may have been behind a suspicious incident on Tuesday.

Officers are investigating a van reported to them Tuesday night. Parents of a nine-year-old boy say the van pulled up and a man inside attempted to grab the boy who was playing outside.

Police obtained videos and pictures from a nearby neighbor with security cameras who says he got the van on camera. Now police are asking for help in identifying the owner of the van.

Based on evidence obtained, police say the person who drives the van — identified by police as an African-American man — may have attempted to abduct a child before.

“Some of the posts and comments we’ve seen, you know, people mentioning a similar occurrence from North Collins to Angola to Springville to different parts of western New York,” Police Officer Steve Raiport said.

Anybody with information is asked to call police to report it at (716) 800-7795.
