ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who killed his father by beating or stabbing him to death will spend between 15 and 25 years behind bars after taking a plea deal in court.
Sean Keenan took a plea deal Monday in Buffalo City Court, pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter for patricide. Police learned of the killing about a year ago when he was stopped at the border as he attempted to use his father’s documents to cross into Canada.
Police say after he was stopped, they checked on 70-year-old Orchard Park native John Keenan’s well-being and found his body.
John Keenan’s death came as a shock to many, especially his former colleagues at St. Bonaventure University. See more about his life here.
Sean Keenan was originally facing charges of second degree murder and other lesser charges for attempting to cross the border with false documentation. He’ll be handed his final sentence on May 20.
