ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – It’s more than just physical conditioning during the Bills’ voluntary workouts; they’re trying to absorb a rather large offensive playbook as well.
“We need this time,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “Quite honestly, it’s a great time to teach especially offensively but we’re putting in a brand new system and you look at that playbook. I was kidding with Greg (Roman), let me go get a golf cart to wheel this thing over to my office.”
Offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s offense typically has a big role for the tight end – one of the reasons the Bills pursued Charles Clay in free agency.
“I think that’s the thing that I’m looking most forward to is just get back to moving around a lot as opposed to just playing a stationary tight-end position. Obviously that’s the vibe I’m getting so far so that’s probably the thing I’m most excited about and just winning; that’s the biggest part,” said Clay.
The Bills wrap up the second week of voluntary conditioning on Thursday. The next item on the offseason schedule is a voluntary veterans mini-camp at the end of the month.
