Distracted driving crackdown issues 17,000 tickets

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A week long initiative to crack down on distracted driving across New York State saw thousands of issued tickets.

Over just five days from April 10 through April 15, Troopers issued 17,447 tickets. Although only 2,752 of the tickets were issued for texting and driving and cell phone use, the initiative was designed to curb distracted driving.

Troopers issued over 5,500 speeding tickets, nearly 200 DWI tickets, almost 1,000 seat belt violations, over 200 move over law violations, among thousands of other tickets.
