TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A cab driver fought off a robbery attempt by a woman early Wednesday on River Road in the Town of Townawanda.
The cab driver was able to detain the woman until police arrived to arrest her.
At around 1:30 a.m. the driver picked up a woman, identified by police as Lisa M. Park, 33, of Tonawanda. Once she got in the back seat of the cab she grabbed the driver by the throat and demanded he give her his money.
The driver quickly drove away, afraid another robber was nearby to help her.
The driver fought Park off as he drove, according to authorities. She attempted to reach into the driver’s pockets during the fight.
Park attempted to grab the steering wheel to crash the car but the cab driver was able to prevent her from taking control of the car.
The cab driver was able to flag down another driver for help and stopped the car. Park then allegedly ran away carrying the driver’s cell phone. But the driver chased her and held her until police arrived, along with the other driver.
Park is charged with robbery in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood cirucation; the latter two which are misdemeanors.
Park is awaiting arraignment on Wednesday in Town of Tonawanda court.
