County offers training for use of heroin reversal drug

Cheektowaga, N.Y. (WIVB) — Erie County is offering training for anyone who wants to know how to use an emergency drug to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose.

Many first responders in New York state already carry a drug called naloxone and have been trained to use it. Because of popular demand, the county health department will offer training to individuals who want to be able to administer the drug, which is known as Narcan or Evzio.

The free training will be conducted May through October at the Erie County Fire Training Academy, at 3359 Broadway, Cheektowaga.
