NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Days after a costly fire in North Tonawanda, investigators are still trying to get to the bottom of the blaze.
North Tonawanda Fire Chief John Lapham says a cause has yet to be determined, and it’s not possible yet to say if the fire is suspicious. He says about 17 boats were destroyed or damaged while crews battled the fire. The warehouse was also reduced to rubble, which has hampered an investigation.
“They try to find the seed of the fire, the heaviest burn,” Lapham said. “From there they’ll talk to, interview people along the way. What they saw, what was in there.”
Damage estimates can’t be determined until all boaters have been interviewed about their property, but it is expected to be a very costly fire.
