Men rescued from rock after Niagara River rises in gorge

NIAGARA FALLS, On. (WIVB) — Two fishermen required rescue Wednesday afternoon after the Niagara River rose around them during a fishing expedition.

Niagara Falls Parks Police say the two men, who aren’t locals, were fishing in the Niagara River Gorge near the whirlpool when water rose around 12:30 p.m. The Niagara Falls Parks Police’ High Angle River Team rescued the men by pulling them into a chopper which was hovering just above the river.

Police say one man was injured after he fell on the rock, but he was released at the scene. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
