HARTFORD, CT (WIVB) — A nurse who was on the flight diverted to the Buffalo Airport Wednesday spoke about her experience.

Pilots on SkyWest flight 5622 asked if there were any medical professionals on board. Mary Cunningham said she was the only passenger in the medical field. She said many of the passengers who felt sick were seated near the wing of the plane. She helped one woman who was not feeling well and had passed out.

“By the time I saw her, she was pretty lethargic, her color looked awful. So I asked for some oxygen for her, once she had oxygen she was a lot better, responsive. Then all of a sudden the woman behind her passed out. That’s when I told the flight attendant we should do an emergency landing. Then everyone started feeling sick, I didn’t feel very well myself,” Cunningham said.

Cunningham added, she did not see the passenger pass out, but flight attendants told her about it.

The flight made a rapid decent to land quickly but landed safely. Twelve passengers were evaluated by paramedics on the ground and one was treated and released.
