Initial investigation of massive marina fire completed

CITY OF NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Information from fire investigators is conflicting with reports from the owner of a local marina which was partially ravaged in a recent fire.

The owner of the marina recently said he thought the fire’s damage would breach $1 million, but fire investigators say there is only about $600,000 in damage.

A release today from North Tonawanda fire investigators says the structure sustained about $300,000 in damage and the boats sustained about $300,000 in damage.

There’s still no word on what may have caused the April 20 fire. Investigators say the flames may have sparked in the back of a warehouse at the marina.

The investigation will remain open in case any pertinent information can be gained to close the investigation for good. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
