Maid of the Mist kicking off 2015 season

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – It’s a day many fans of the falls have been looking forward to for months. The Maid of the Mist boat tours are starting up for the 2015 season at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 1.

The Maid of the Mist boats have safely navigated the waters of the Niagara gorge and taken visitors to the base of the falls since 1846. This is the 130th consecutive year for the boat tours to run.

And this year, there are some new features, including updated lighting on the observation decks, new gangways, and a new environmentally-friendly engine on the Maid of the Mist VI boat.

One adult ticket costs $17. Children’s tickets cost $9.90 a piece, but children under 5 ride free with an accompanying adult. The ticket prices include the $1 per person cost of the elevator, which is necessary to reach the landing.

The 2015 season will run through October 31.
