Maid of the Mist open for the weekend

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – Thousands of locals and tourists were putting on the blue ponchos all morning and afternoon to get an up close view of Niagara Falls. The Maid of the Mist, one of the world’s longest running tourist attractions kicked off it’s 2015 season today, and the weather couldn’t have been better.

It was lucky that Maid of the Mist opened today, for many people who just happened to be visiting the Falls. There are still a few chunks of ice along the walls of the gorge, a reminder of the brutal winter we had, but the weather today was nothing but Spring-like, so getting a little wet actually felt great.

Some of the new features to the Maid of the Mist this year includes new lighting on the Observation Deck, a new environmentally-friendly engine on Maid of the Mist VI, and new upper and lower gangways that are both handicap friendly, and will allow for more efficient passenger loading and disembarking.
