Local talent drafted in USHL

This year’s USHL draft class is peppered with athletes from Western New York, headlined by Nichols star Carson Gicewicz, who went sixth overall on Tuesday.

The USHL, the top junior hockey league in the United States, has a reputation for sending players on to a higher level.

Gicewicz, from Orchard Park, went sixth overall to Lincoln. Also pictured is Nichols teammate Cody Fleckenstein, who went in the 11th round to Omaha.

5th round – F Brendan Miller (North Tonawanda) – Tri-City
7th round – F Collin Rutherford (Tonawanda) – Cedar Rapids
8th round – F Matthew Barnaby (Williamsville) – Bloomington
11th round – D Cody Fleckenstein (Fredonia) – Omaha
13th round – F Eric Benshadle (Getzville) – Muskegon
