Panera releases list of ‘no no’ ingredients

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WISH) — Panera Bread is joining the growing number of food purveyors swearing off certain types of chemicals and food items.

The company released a list Tuesday of items it will ban from its menu by the end of 2016. Some of the items are already not in Panera’s food. The company is calling it “The No No List.”

Some items on Panera’s list are easily recognizable to consumers: caramel color, artificial flavors and high fructose corn syrup. Other items may require a scientist to decode: sodium metabisulfite, ethoxyquin and diacetyl tartaric acid.

The Panera news comes after Chipotle announced it would remove GMO food from its menu. Kraft also recently announced it would remove artificial dyes from its famed macaroni and cheese.
