BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – If it’s a weekday afternoon and you’re driving around listening to Kiss 98.5, you probably feel like you have your best friend in the car with you.
Jud (he goes by his first name only) only has 25 seconds in between songs to fit in fun facts and giveaway prizes, but it’s quality time for him.
“I get to be in the car with you, at work with you, on your way home with the kids,” Jud told News 4. “So I get to spend time with you throughout your day,”
Jud was wearing a T-shirt that read “I’m kind of a big deal in Buffalo” the day News 4 came to visit him at the radio station in Amherst. He would never admit it, but the description on the shirt is right. He is kind of a big deal around here. Three years ago, the Amherst native was just an intern at Kiss while finishing up his degree at SUNY Fredonia. Now he’s not only an on air personality, but also has the added responsibilities of music director and assistant program director.
“He’s an integral part of the station, very successful in college, and it translated into his job,” Jud’s boss, Program Director Sue O’Neil, told News 4. She explained that he sets a positive example for his co-workers, despite being one of the younger members of the staff. “A constant reminder to be kind. And humble. And interested. Sometimes we forget to just be interested in the little things, and he’s genuinely interested in everyone.”
Whether he’s on the air, working behind the scenes, or helping at charity events like the Kiss Cares for Kids Radiothon, Jud finds that people tend to look up to him, and not just because he’s so tall.
“A giant in personality, a giant in real life. He’s a big hardworking guy. He’s instantly your best friend,” said Morning Show Host Nicholas Picholas.
As far as Jud is concerned, you can make that BFF’s.
“I’d love to be here for ever. I think that would be great,” Jud said about the station that he grew up listening to, and is now helping to run. “My mantra from the get go has always been, if I’m having fun, I am going to keep doing it until I stop having fun. And I’m having a blast.”
