Lightning strikes damage two Buffalo buildings

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Fierce lightning strikes followed brief, but severe thunderstorms in western New York Monday night. In Buffalo, those strikes caused thousands in damage.

A local home was set ablaze when a bolt of lightning ignited a fire in a Wilkes Avenue home. Fire crews responded and extinguished the blaze. Officials estimate the damage at $35,000.

Tim Hortons on Kensington Avenue also suffered roof damage when an air conditioning unit was struck by a bolt of lightning. The roof suffered about $10,000 in damage according to Buffalo authorities.

Buffalo authorities didn’t report any injuries from the severe storms.
