FREDONIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The village of Fredonia is mulling dissolving into the town of Pomfret.
The Dunkirk Observer reports that the subject is being openly discussed as recently as Monday’s Fredonia village board meeting.
Fredonia is one of many smaller communities exploring the option of merging into a larger community.
Eleven villages have shut down since 2009, including Pike in Wyoming County and Limestone, Randolph, East Randolph and Perrysburg in Cattaraugus County, according to the New York Department of State.
However moves to dissolve Williamsville, Sloan and Farnham were defeated by voters in 2010.
