Funeral arrangements set for local soldier who died in New Jersey

EDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Army Captain from Eden will be memorialized this Saturday at his former school, the Eden Junior Senior High School.

Captain John J. Levulis, 25, died Thursday from injuries suffered when a car hit the Humvee he was in during a convoy traveling to Fort Dix, New Jersey.Levulis2

The car slammed into the Humvee forcing it into a tree. Four soldiers including Captain Levulis were injured in the crash.

He was an infantry platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum and served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2014.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in John J. Kaczor Funeral Home, 5453 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg.  Services at the Eden Junior Senior High School will be held in the auditorium at 10am on Saturday.  The school is located at 3150 Schoolview Road in Eden.

Captain Levulis was a 2008 graduate of Eden High School.  He is survived by his wife, Julianene Viviano, his parents Gary and Barbara and a brother.
