Ground breaks on multi-million dollar nature center at Letchworth State Park

CASTILE, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State’s most famous state park is getting a face lift as part of a nearly $7 million project.

Ground broke Thursday on a building which is expected to be a 5,000 square-foot centerpiece for the park. The nature center will feature new educational and interpretive programming, with classrooms, interactive exhibits and office space.

Part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s New York Parks 2020 plan, the park addition will cost $6.75 million — including a $1 million endowment fund to keep the facility maintained — and should be completed by the spring of 2016. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
