Teen bicyclist in critical condition after accident in Amherst

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 17 year-old bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in Amherst early Wednesday evening.

Police closed Route 263 in all directions from North Forest Road to Route 270 due to the accident, and despite saying it could take up to four hours to reopen the area, reopened the road just ahead of the 5 p.m. commute.

Police say Thomas Schwarzmueller, of Wilson, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital then transferred to the ECMC.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and no charges have been filed at this time.

The Amherst Police say their investigators will continue their investigation.
