ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) — A woman entrusted with the care of an elderly family member is accused of defrauding them of thousands of dollars.
Police say they were called to investigate after family caught on to what they say was months in thefts. They say Stacy Hamilton, a 30-year-old Albion resident, convinced her family in November of 2014 that she would do a good job of managing an elderly family member’s finances.
Her family says Hamilton was entrusted to pay bills and purchase groceries for her family member, but police say she did anything but pay bills, and only bought minimal groceries. Investigation found that over several months, she emptied her family member’s bank account, used her credit and debit cards and failed to pay bills.
Police say over time her theft rang up a bill of over $15,000. She was charged with felony third degree grand larceny and ordered by the court not to come in contact with the family member she stole from.
Hamilton will return to court on June 2.
UPDATE: Charges were dismissed against Hamilton on March 31, 2016.
