Dad accused of padlocking kids in room shows up to court

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man accused of crimes against his children showed up to court with his lawyer following a missed court date on Thursday.

A Buffalo judge issued a bench warrant for Carlos Fuqua after he missed his Thursday court date. He’s accused of endangering the welfare of a child, but could be facing additional charges.

Police say he and Melissa Khanthvout padlocked two children in a room at their home on Pritchard Street then left the home. Officers found the children after a call rang out when neighbors heard the kids yelling for help from a window.

Child Protective Services have gotten involved and police say the children are staying with relatives. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
