Motorcyclist killed after crashing into van driven by alleged drunk driver

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

It happened just before midnight Thursday evening. A man in his 30s was killed.

Police at the scene said he was driving his motorcycle west on Niagara Falls Boulevard when he crashed into the side of a van, headed east. The driver of the van was turning into the parking lot of The Original Honey’s restaurant.

Police said speed was also a factor into the cause of the accident, which is something they say they unfortunately see too often.

“This is the time of the year that we’re always concerned about motorcycle accidents. You have to be aware of motorcyclists out there and the motorcyclists’ speed is often a factor when we have accidents,” Niagara Falls Police Officer James Venegmond told News 4. “It’s two-fold, for the drivers to be aware of motorcyclists and also for the safety of the motorcyclists to watch their speed, especially on busy roadways.”

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the van was not injured. She was given a field sobriety test and arrested; police say she was intoxicated. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
