Doctor’s offices hacked, investigation points to “insider wrongdoing”

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A group of local doctors offices which were hacked a year ago is now being blamed on “insider wrongdoing.”

The Buffalo Heart Group, LLP says its systems were hacked in the spring of 2014, compromising the personal information of about 500-600 patients. Representatives of the group say information such as name, birth dates, addresses, billing information, telephone numbers and appointment schedules were compromised.

Officials with the group say a physician who no longer works with the group worked with third parties to solicit patients in connection with the physician’s new employment.

The group says its computers are secure, and haven’t had any unauthorized access since June of 2014. Its patients who were affected have since been notified, and the group says it is working with federal and state resources on the matter.
