New race challenges runners to be “Kelly Tough”

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Runners have the chance to live out the catchphrase of the Kelly family at a new race this weekend. The Kelly Tough 12K will give people the opportunity to beat the train down Main Street from UB South Campus all the way to First Niagara Center.

The Hunter’s Hope Foundation, Jim and Jill’s organization to help families of children with Krabbe disease and other leukodystrophies, teamed up with the NFTA to design the course. They chose to make it 12 miles long as an ode to Jim’s jersey number when he was a Hall of Fame Quarterback for the Bills.

“Jim said, what if we had a race, in support of the Hunters Hope Foundation”, said Hunter’s Hope Chief Operating Officer Dennis Sampier. “It could almost become our signature event, and create awareness and fundraising for the foundation and support these children and families.”

You can still registration for the race is still open. You can pre-register at www.huntershope.org, or arrive to the starting line early on Saturday to sign up. There will be a post race party at Alumni Plaza starting at noon.
