High school senior dies on way to graduation

(WRIC) – Prince George County Police in Virginia are investigating a traffic fatality that occurred Saturday morning.

At approximately 7 a.m., a passerby notified police of an overturned vehicle with the driver trapped inside. Police and rescue responded and extricated the driver from the vehicle.   She was transported to an area hospital were she was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed the vehicle ran off the roadway to the left striking a tree. The driver, 18 year old Sierra Lynn Barbara Wise, was on her way to Prince George County High School for her graduation. The high school graduation ceremony started Saturday at 9 a.m.

The tragic news that one of their fellow seniors had died reached some graduates right before walking on stage.

“That’s heartbreaking news you don’t want to hear,” said Brian Weinz, a classmate and friend. “It’s tough to see somebody go like that, somebody who you’ve been with this whole year and you’ve to know.”

“I can’t imagine being on your way to one of the best days of your life, especially in your young life, and having something so tragic happen on your way her,” said Kaitlyn Lambert, a Prince George alum who was at the graduation ceremony.

Weinz shared classes with Wise, and says she was funny and laid back.

“She was different, she didn’t try to fit in with anybody, she was just herself. That was the good thing about her,” he said.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
