FRIDAY FLASHBACK: 1966 Humboldt Park bike rodeo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Long before there were groups like GoBike to organize community bike rides through the city there were bike rodeos that tried to get kids and adults interested in safe bike riding maneuvers

Buffalo’s Humboldt Park, now known as MLK Park, hosted bike events, known as rodeo like this one in June, 1966, nearly 50 years ago.

Buffalo Police officers helped out – taking the kids through their paces as everyone tried to maintain their balance.  Note the lack of safety helmets.

It makes one wonder if accomplishing these same bike riding skills would really keep the kids happy today.
