Snow plow contractor gets more jail time

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — An infamous a snow plow contractor who left customers out in the cold from Buffalo to Rochester, is now going to spend more time in prison.

Scott Romero was sentenced in Monroe County on Friday to one to three years in jail for taking payments from customers but failing to plow snow from their driveways.

Call 4 Action first got involved with Scott Romero in 2010 when several Western New York customers complained about his service called Extreme Snowplowing. Soon after that, the State Attornery General filed a lawsuit against him.

At the time, Romero was also doing business in the Rochester area under the name Affordable Tree experts. His sentence today involves cheating over two hundred people in the Rochester area.

In court Friday, Romero said “Apparently, it’s a crime to be a good salesman”.

His attorney, Christian Kennedy says he misspoke. “I think Mr. Romero had every intention of completing these contracts, and I think that as he stated in court, at his plea that his errors were in  his misrepresentations in some of the advertisements he used to get the contracts that he obtained. as we said, he was pulled over and incarcerated as of the first snowstorm, so he never had an opportunity to try to complete them.”

Monroe County District Attorney, Mark Monaghan doesn’t buy that. “I don’t think he’s gonna change. I think he’ll find another victim. He’ll try and wiggle out of it later on. I don’t have a whole lot of hope for someone who conducts himself this way.”

Romero will be eligible for parole in November because he has already served six months in jail. He will have to repay customers in the Rochester area, but he already owes customers in Erie County about $50,000, and the Erie County customers must be repaid first. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
