BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Tyler Kossow and Corey Brown played plenty of sports growing up, but when they graduated from Niagara University a simple question popped up: “Now what?”
That’s the idea that fueled the new website leaguehippo.com, which gives users in Western New York the ability to search for rec leagues in a variety of sports.
“Lesser known sports like broomball or whiffle ball league, cornhole, bocce. People don’t really think of those things, and it’s not really easy to find. To be able to showcase what those other sports are, find out a little more information. Maybe I didn’t realize I wanted to join a pistol, skeet, or trap league, I don’t know what it is. But, you might be surprised on what you’d find,” said Kossow.
The goal for Kossow and his team at 360 PSG in Amherst is to fine-tune the website – which is still in its infancy – and roll it out for the top 50 markets in the US by the end of the year. Their method for finding all the leagues is a combination of research, local athletes, and organizers.
“Not everything is found on the web, so we rely on some user submissions to fill in the cracks,” said Kossow.
