West Seneca, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Tuesday night the Orchard Park school board honored the Quaker’s softball team. On Saturday the team won a state championship after beating Liverpool in the final game 11-2.
The roster consists of seven seniors. The win marks the first girls state title in school history in any sport.
Senior Katie Weimer explained, “It was definitely a memorable feeling. We have worked for this for so long and we have worked really hard. A lot of the girls have been on the team for four or five years, so it was a really big accomplishment to be the first team to win states for girls softball and girls sports.”
Senior Shaye Swiatek added, “To have the first state championship at Orchard Park is one of the best feelings. I can’t even describe how happy I am that we did this and we accomplished this goal.”
Six of their seven seniors will be playing at the collegiate level next year.
