Oldest tavern in Buffalo expanding

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo’s oldest tavern is getting bigger.

Ulrich’s on Ellicott St. will soon have a new patio with outdoor seating.

The owner, Salvatore Buscaglia says the new addition will be cutting-edge while still having an “Old world” feel. It’s important to him, he said, that he restores – not remodel – the business which is almost 150 years old.

“I took the time to do it and I’m very glad I did because a lot of the customers that come through – the old patrons – they’re very thankful that I brought it back in time to a period of 1868,” Buscaglia told News 4. “So I figured by adding the new dimension to the front of the facade of the building it would be something that would be beneficial not only to myself but also to the public as well.”

The City must give final approval to the plans before work can begin but that is expected to happen very soon.
