SolarCity project looks to benefit other local industries

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – An executive from SolarCity spoke to at a luncheon in western New York Thursday outlining their plans to work with other local companies and industries to produce their products.

The company says it will producer 10,000 solar panels every day which will require chemical gases, aluminum and other materials.

SolarCity’s Vice President of the Supply Chain Vinayak Gupta told local business leaders, “What I’m looking for here is partnership with the local community, local infatructure, the local supply chain who are willing to work with us and make us and the entire community super successful for many decades to come.”

The SolarCity project is part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative. The solar engergy systems company is building a $900 million complex in South Buffalo. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with full production beginning in 2017.
