Buffalo Beauts draft Burke with fourth overall pick

Buffalo Beauts hold tryouts.

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB)– On Saturday afternoon the National Women’s Hockey League held their inaugural junior draft. The Buffalo Beauts chose Courtney Burke with the fourth overall pick. Burke, a defenseman, is a rising senior at the University of Wisconsin. Buffalo can’t officially sign her until she completes her collegiate career.

During Burke’s junior season she registered four goals and 20 assists in 40 games, helping the Badgers to the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament.

Boston college’s Alex Carpenter went first overall to the New York Riverters.

Each team was allotted five picks over five rounds. Below is a complete list of Buffalo’s draft picks
