FRIENDSHIP, N.Y. (WIVB) – With all the police activity around the area Saturday evening, people who live in Friendship have a lot of questions and they say they’re taking extra precautions at their homes.
A few people News 4 spoke to say they planned to lock their doors and windows tonight; something they say not many people do around here. It’s a rural area, with a lot of of woods – unfortunately that means a lot of places to hide.
They want to know who called in the tip of the reported sighting – how credible that tip was – and how certain police are that the two escaped convicts are indeed in this area.
Neighbors say they they hope this is the end of the road for the two missing prisoners. “It’s a little bit scary. I hope it ends tonight with no bloodshed except the two fugitives,” Lorraine Sloane said.
“If they’re here, I hope they’re caught. If they’re not, then I still hope they’re caught,” said Peter Gambino.
One local resident we talked to says the two inmates are lucky to have been on the loose so long and they would have to have gotten really lucky to have made it so far from the Clinton Correctional Facility. He says he hopes that luck ends here Saturday tonight.
Neighbors have been keeping their eyes peeled along with police looking for any clues that might lead to the capture of the escaped inmates.
Police say if anybody in the area does see the escaped criminals, they should immediately call 911.
