June 13, 2015 – Witnesses spotted two men walking near the Gang Mills rail yard on Rita’s Way in the town of Erwin. This is 374 miles from Dannemora, New York.
June 14, 2015 — Two men with the same description were spotted walking along County Route 115 in the town of Lindley, heading toward the Pennsylvania Border. Troopers and Investigators searched the area of a construction site in the Town of Erwin. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department assisted the State Police. The two sites are 10 miles away from one another.
June 20, 2015 — New York State Police begin investigating possible sighting of two men in Allegany County who may fit the description of David Sweat and Richard Matt.
A witness spotted two men along a railroad line that runs along Route 20 in the Town of Friendship.
State Police, U.S. Marshals, officers from the Department of Environmental Conservation, State Parks Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement began searching an area along I-86 and Route 20 in the Town of Friendship. Aviation, canine and special operation teams were assisting in the search.
This was an unconfirmed sighting, State Police ask residents who live in this area along the New York-Pennsylvania border to be on alert. If these men are spotted, please call 911 immediately. Do not approach, as both are considered to be very dangerous. Lindley and Friendship are 80 miles apart.
June 21, 2015 – Caravans holding New York State corrections officered arrived in Amity in order to help continue searching Allegany County.
If anyone has any other information regarding the escape, please call 1-800-GIVETIP. New York State is offering a reward of $50,000 for information that leads to the capture of either suspect ($100,000 for both). The U.S. Marshals Service has placed Sweat and Matt on their 15 Most Wanted Fugitives List, and is also offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the capture of either suspect.
