Investigation underway following death of Niagara Falls baby

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Despite rescue efforts in Niagara Falls Tuesday, a baby died and was pronounced dead at the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

First responders rushed to a 24th street home Tuesday morning in an attempt to rescue a 5-month-old child who wasn’t breathing. Rural metro transported the child to the medical center.

As of now, police say the cause of death isn’t known. An autopsy suggests the death was accidental, potentially a result of sudden infant death syndrome.

Additional toxicology results are expected to provide more details. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
