Sabres scout calls Eichel a future captain

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WIVB) – We all know about Jack Eichel’s flashy moves and gaudy stats, but the Sabres are also very high on his leadership ability.

Sabres Director of Amateur Scouting Greg Royce called Eichel “a natural leader” and a “future captain” today.

“He has the confidence, we have the confidence he could be the best player in this draft,” said Royce.

Royce agreed with GM Tim Murray’s assessment last week that selecting Eichel with the second overall pick would be an easy choice.

“Very exciting, I think a franchise player. He does things that are unexpected, high hockey sense, unbelievable skater. He’s going to be a number one center for a long time,” said Royce.

After that pick, though, while the talent level is still high, there is no specific pecking order.

“I think it’s a very deep draft. The guy that we get at 21 and at 31, and even 51, are future NHL players,” said Royce.
